Republicans are defunding Medicaid and now the rural hospitals are closing!

Medicaid was established in 1965 as part of the Social Security Amendments of 1965, with the goal of providing healthcare coverage to low-income individuals and families including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

The enabling legislation obligates the federal government to fund a portion of medically necessary healthcare expenses for eligible individuals. Financing the program is a joint responsibility of the federal government and states.
